Nebraska and Kansas Brace for Severe Thunderstorms on Friday

Omaha, NE – An enhanced risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms has been issued for parts of southwest Nebraska and western Kansas today, the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center reports. Large hail and damaging winds are expected with initial storms, followed by an increasing risk of numerous severe gusts, some reaching up to 75 mph, as the evening progresses.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, areas at risk include Kearney, NE; Garden City, KS; Dodge City, KS; Liberal, KS; Hays, KS; and Goodland, KS. Residents in these areas are urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property.

The potential hazards associated with these storms include scattered damaging gusts, severe hail, and the possibility of a few tornadoes.
