Scranton, Pa. – Isolated severe thunderstorms could strike parts of northeast Pennsylvania between 3 and 9 p.m. Thursday, bringing the threat of damaging winds and large hail. Areas along and just north of the I-80 and I-84 corridors could see the brunt of these quick-hitting storms.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a fast-moving disturbance will cross north-central Pennsylvania this afternoon and evening. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) has been issued for isolated severe weather, especially in counties including Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wayne, and Pike. Forecasters say storm coverage will be scattered, but intense in isolated pockets.

Cities like Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, and Montrose could experience strong wind gusts over 40 mph and hail up to quarter-size during peak storm activity. Rain chances increase dramatically after 3 p.m., with the highest probabilities near the New York border and Pocono region.

Travelers should be prepared for rapid changes in visibility and slick roads late today. Secure outdoor items and charge mobile devices in case of brief power outages. No official weather alerts have been issued yet, but updates may follow as storms develop.

Storm risks will taper off after 9 p.m., with quiet weather returning overnight.
