Wilmington, North Carolina – Scattered thunderstorms could disrupt afternoon travel across inland North Carolina Tuesday, as early coastal showers shift westward and intensify.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, mixed clouds and sun will dominate Tuesday’s skies, with rain starting along the coast in the morning and becoming more widespread inland by late afternoon. High temperatures are expected to reach near 90°F inland and the mid-80s along the coast, with muggy conditions persisting through the evening.

Morning rainfall may dampen beach plans near Wilmington and Myrtle Grove, but skies could briefly clear before storms redevelop inland—potentially affecting areas around Fayetteville, Elizabethtown, and Lumberton. Storms could bring gusty winds, localized flooding, and lightning.

Beachgoers should also be aware of a low rip current risk, especially during low tide. While the threat is minimal, swimmers are urged to stay within sight of lifeguards and avoid isolated areas.

Showers are expected to taper off overnight, with lows in the mid to upper 70s. More typical summer storms are likely through midweek.
