United States – Powerful and potentially damaging winds are the main weather threat across the country today, with more than 75 million people under a High Wind Warning or Wind Advisory, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service, strong wind gusts are impacting large portions of the Western U.S., the northern Plains, and parts of the Midwest and Northeast, creating the risk of power outages, tree damage, property damage, and hazardous travel. Officials warn that difficult driving conditions are likely at times, especially for high-profile vehicles.

The most intense impacts are focused across the Western U.S. and northern Plains, where a significant high wind and blizzard-related event is underway. The Weather Prediction Center reports wind gusts exceeding 100 mph were observed in parts of Colorado and Wyoming over the last 24 hours, underscoring the strength of this system.

A national map of wind alerts shows High Wind Warnings in portions of the Intermountain West and Rockies, with Wind Advisories extending eastward into parts of the Plains, Great Lakes, and Mid-Atlantic. Some lakeshore areas are also under Lake Wind Advisories, where rough water conditions are expected.

Officials caution that strong winds can quickly bring down tree limbs and power lines, leading to scattered outages. Loose outdoor objects may become airborne, and travelers may encounter sudden crosswinds on open highways and bridges.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel in high-wind areas, and stay informed through local forecasts and emergency alerts. Motorists should slow down and be prepared for sudden gusts, especially in exposed areas.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the evolving system and will issue additional warnings as needed throughout the day.
