Chicago, IL – A tweet from the Department of Homeland Security using the term “Remigrate” — a word tied to neo-Nazi movements — has ignited outrage across the country just days before millions are expected to take to the streets for Saturday’s “No Kings Day” protests.

The post, shared Tuesday afternoon from the official @DHSgov account, drew immediate backlash from lawmakers, activists, and civil rights leaders. The term “Remigrate” has been associated with far-right campaigns advocating for ethnic cleansing and forced deportations. DHS has not issued an official explanation or retraction as of Tuesday evening.

Governor J.B. Pritzker condemned the post, accusing federal authorities of “inciting hatred and fear” following a series of ICE raids in Chicago earlier this week. “This is not law enforcement — this is intimidation,” Pritzker said.

The controversy compounds a series of scandals shaking conservative circles. Days earlier, leaked messages from Young Republican leaders revealed racist, antisemitic, and violent rhetoric — prompting condemnation from both parties and calls for resignations.

Organizers of the No Kings Day protests, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, say turnout is expected to exceed two million nationwide, with large demonstrations planned in Chicago, Washington D.C., New York, and Los Angeles. The movement’s message: reject authoritarianism and defend constitutional democracy.

“Americans are done being silent,” one organizer said. “This weekend, we march for every person targeted by hate.”
