Albuquerque, NM – Coffee lovers across the country are being urged to check their kitchen cabinets following a nationwide recall involving more than 10,000 single-serve coffee pods produced by New Mexico Piñon Coffee, a manufacturer based in Albuquerque.

The recall centers on the company’s Dark Piñon Single Serve 10-count pods, manufactured in New Mexico and distributed nationally, including to high-population metro areas such as Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Houston, and Phoenix. The manufacturer initiated the recall after discovering that food-safe ink from the pod packaging may allegedly leak into the coffee during brewing in Keurig machines.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, an inconsistent application of the seal over the cups allowed the ink to potentially enter the brewed coffee. New Mexico Piñon Coffee, in an urgent message to customers, emphasized that no reports of illness or injury have been received but issued the recall “out of an abundance of caution.”

The recall applies specifically to the Dark Piñon Single Serve pods in 10-count packages bearing lot code 251749 and a best-by date of May 8, 2026. No other lot codes or products are affected, according to the manufacturer.

Although the pods were primarily sold at select Albertsons and Walmart stores in New Mexico, they were also distributed nationwide through the company’s online store, raising concerns for consumers across major U.S. cities.

New Mexico Piñon Coffee is advising customers who purchased the affected pods to dispose of them or return them at the place of purchase for a full refund. Customers with questions or concerns can contact the company directly at 505-298-1964.

The FDA reminds consumers that product recalls are issued when items present a risk of injury or defect. More information is available on the FDA’s website.
