Nashville, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee residents will need to brace for sweltering heat Thursday as a heat advisory goes into effect from noon to 7 p.m., with “feels-like” temperatures soaring near or above 105 degrees across most of the region.
According to the US National Weather Service Nashville, the advisory covers Nashville, Clarksville, Lafayette, Waverly, Columbia, and other cities west of the Cumberland Plateau. Heat index values will reach dangerous levels, making outdoor activity risky—especially during the afternoon peak. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit time outside, and check on vulnerable neighbors, children, and pets.
Major roads through Davidson, Montgomery, and Maury counties, including interstates around Nashville and Clarksville, could see heat-related delays or incidents. Schools and businesses may adjust outdoor activities. The advisory does not include the Cumberland Plateau, but impacts will still be felt across much of Middle Tennessee.
Scattered storms could develop through the afternoon, bringing the threat of heavy rain, strong winds, and frequent lightning, particularly around Columbia and Smithville. If you must be outdoors, take breaks in the shade and watch for rapidly changing weather.
Heat advisories are expected to remain in place through Thursday evening, with more warnings possible if conditions persist.
