Nashville, Tenn. – Storms could roll into Middle Tennessee Wednesday afternoon as temperatures soar into the mid-90s, with heat index values topping 105° in parts of Nashville. The combination of extreme heat and scattered storms may bring quick downpours and lightning during the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service, a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms is expected between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, with winds increasing up to 10 mph. While storms are expected to remain scattered, forecasters warn that even brief downpours could lead to slick roads across Davidson and surrounding counties.

Temperatures will ease slightly overnight Wednesday, dropping into the low 70s under partly cloudy skies. By Thursday, drier air moves in with mostly sunny skies and highs near 89°. The heat intensifies again Friday and Saturday, with highs climbing to 93° and 95° under sunny skies.

Travelers and outdoor workers should stay hydrated and limit exposure during peak afternoon hours. Storms are expected to fade by late Wednesday, but heat will remain the main concern heading into the weekend.

Warnings could be issued if storm coverage expands or if heat index values rise further through the weekend.
