Nashville, TN — Significant winter weather could impact Nashville and Middle Tennessee this weekend, with snow, ice, and dangerous cold expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, the chance for 6 inches or more of snowfall remains highest north of Interstate 40, including areas near and north of the Nashville metro. Farther south of I-40, forecasters say concern is growing for a more icy setup, which could still cause major travel and infrastructure impacts even with lower snow totals.

Winter weather impacts are expected to begin Saturday, with precipitation continuing into Sunday before ending sometime Sunday afternoon or evening. While exact timing remains uncertain, forecasters stressed that confidence is increasing that travel conditions will deteriorate during the weekend.

In addition to snow and ice, prolonged cold temperatures are expected to extend the impacts well beyond the storm itself. The National Weather Service warned that temperatures could drop into the single digits Monday and Tuesday mornings, with daytime highs potentially remaining below freezing until at least Wednesday. This could allow snow and ice to persist on untreated roads for several days.

Snow probability graphics show 40–60% chances of 6 inches or more north of I-40, including portions of the Nashville area, while freezing rain probabilities increase south of the city. Power outages and downed tree limbs are possible where ice accumulates.

Officials urge residents to prepare now by limiting travel plans, stocking emergency supplies, and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready. Commuters, students, and workers who rely on weekend or early-week travel may be especially affected if conditions worsen overnight.

The National Weather Service emphasized that now is the time to prepare and warned against waiting until the last minute as conditions could change quickly.

Residents in Nashville should closely monitor forecast updates through Friday as confidence increases and additional alerts or warnings may be issued.
