NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Thunderstorms are popping up across Middle Tennessee this afternoon, bringing the risk of damaging wind gusts up to 40 mph, small hail, and frequent lightning through tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, storms are forming rapidly across Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford, and surrounding counties. While severe warnings are not in effect, the storms may still cause power outages, downed tree limbs, and slick roads during the evening commute.
Drivers on I-40, I-65, and I-24 should be prepared for sudden heavy downpours and reduced visibility, especially in Nashville, Clarksville, and Murfreesboro. Outdoor events could also be disrupted by lightning and bursts of hail.
Officials advise residents to secure loose outdoor items, stay indoors during lightning, and keep multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Even non-severe storms could produce dangerous conditions if you’re caught outside or on the road.
The storm threat is expected to continue through the evening before tapering off overnight. Additional updates and advisories may be issued if storms intensify.
