Nashville, TN – Middle Tennessee residents could catch a rare glimpse of the northern lights tonight, thanks to an ongoing G4 (Severe) geomagnetic storm and clear evening skies across the region.

According to the US National Weather Service Nashville and the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, strong solar activity continues to fuel aurora sightings across much of the U.S., with visibility extending farther south than usual — possibly as far as Tennessee and northern Alabama.

The forecast calls for clear to mostly clear skies overnight, providing favorable viewing conditions before thin clouds return late. Temperatures will fall into the mid-30s to low 40s, so anyone stepping outside to view the aurora should dress warmly.

For the best chance to see the northern lights, look north toward the horizon between 9 p.m. and midnight, away from urban lighting. Faint red or green glows may be visible in rural areas or elevated spots outside Nashville.

If conditions hold, this could be Tennessee’s second aurora display this year, making for a sky show worth staying up for.
