Nashville, Tennessee – Near-record warmth could fuel showers and storms Thursday afternoon across Middle Tennessee.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, temperatures will climb well above seasonal averages this week, with highs reaching 70 to 77 degrees Thursday. That is roughly 20 degrees above normal for mid-February.

Rain chances begin increasing Wednesday but become more widespread Thursday into Friday. Forecasters say showers and thunderstorms are possible Thursday afternoon and evening, particularly along the Interstate 40 corridor through Nashville and surrounding communities.

At this time, the risk for severe storms appears low. However, isolated storms could still produce brief heavy rainfall and gusty winds as a weather system moves through the region.

High temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to remain in the low to upper 60s, with overnight lows staying mild in the 40s and 50s. By the weekend, temperatures are forecast to cool back into the 50s Saturday and mid-40s to low 50s Sunday.

Rain chances may linger into Friday and possibly the weekend before drier air moves in.

Commuters along Interstate 24, Interstate 65, and Interstate 40 should monitor updates Thursday afternoon as scattered storms develop during peak travel hours.

While the overall severe threat is currently limited, residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware as forecast details become clearer later this week.
