Nashville, Tennessee – Strong to severe thunderstorms could sweep across Middle Tennessee Sunday evening as a powerful cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, much of Middle Tennessee west of the Cumberland Plateau is under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather Sunday.
Forecasters say the primary threat will be damaging winds exceeding 70 mph, though a low-end tornado threat is also possible as storms organize into a line.
Areas along and just west of the Cumberland Plateau are currently in a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather.
Storms are expected to develop and move through the region Sunday evening into the early overnight hours Monday, bringing the potential for brief but intense conditions.
Before the storms arrive, conditions will remain warm and windy Sunday, with afternoon temperatures reaching the low to mid-70s across most of Middle Tennessee, slightly cooler across the Cumberland Plateau.
Weather officials say a Wind Advisory may be issued for Sunday as southerly winds increase ahead of the cold front.
After the storms move through, temperatures are expected to drop sharply, bringing much cooler weather into the region early next week.
Because the storms may arrive during evening hours, residents are encouraged to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially if severe weather develops quickly.
The timing could affect Sunday evening travel, events, and early Monday commuters across the Nashville metro area and surrounding counties.
