Nashville, TN – Police Seek Leads in 16-Year-Old Cold Case Murder Near Elementary School

Nashville, TN – On the brink of a grim anniversary, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is making a renewed plea for leads in a 16-year-old cold case. 

February 29, 2008, marks the day Jerry Wayne Gurney, then 42, was fatally shot under mysterious circumstances. The incident unfolded around 10:15 p.m., in front of Glenview Elementary School, located within the Hermitage Precinct. Eyewitness accounts suggest Gurney was confronted by an unidentified black male, leading to a physical altercation and the subsequent firing of two gunshots. The assailant fled the scene, leaving behind unanswered questions and a community in mourning. 

In an effort to finally bring closure to this case, the police are calling on the public to share any information related to the murder of Jerry Wayne Gurney. Information can be relayed to the Cold Case Unit at 615-862-7329 or to Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463, where tips leading to a resolution may qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
