Nashville, TN – A 61-year-old man is facing criminal homicide charges following the fatal stabbing of another man inside a Murfreesboro Pike apartment Saturday evening.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Timothy Scarbrough was arrested after officers responded to a 911 call at his residence at 985 Murfreesboro Pike around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Police discovered the victim, later identified as Christopher Mitchell, 61, of Nashville, deceased inside the unit. Due to significant trauma to his face, Mitchell was initially unidentifiable and carried no identification.
Scarbrough allegedly told investigators that both he and Mitchell had been drinking and using drugs throughout the day. He reportedly claimed that he suspected Mitchell had taken some of his drugs and resold them, and that he left the apartment around 6 p.m., returning later to find Mitchell dead. However, police said his account did not align with evidence recovered at the scene.
The suspected murder weapon was found inside the apartment. Authorities said the Medical Examiner will conduct a full examination to confirm additional details.
Scarbrough remains in custody at the Davidson County Jail on a $200,000 bond as the investigation continues.
