Nashville, TN – A South Nashville man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing three crashes and assaulting a police officer near Una Elementary School early Wednesday morning.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, arrest warrants have been sworn out charging Tafari McIntosh, 35, with felony assault on a police officer, DUI, and leaving the scenes of three crashes. The incidents began shortly before 8 a.m. with collisions reported at 1400 Eagle View Boulevard, 2615 Murfreesboro Pike, and Murfreesboro Pike at Ransom Place.

Witnesses told police they saw McIntosh exit a Nissan Altima through its sunroof after the final crash and walk away. Officer Bailee Mathers, a three-year MNPD veteran working an extra-duty school safety assignment at Una Elementary, was alerted by parents and her radio before locating McIntosh near a carwash.

Police said McIntosh resisted arrest and allegedly struck Mathers multiple times. She deployed her Taser, but he removed the probes and continued attacking until nearby community members intervened to help subdue him.

Mathers was treated at a local hospital and released. McIntosh, who officers said was sweating heavily and appeared under the influence of drugs, was transported to General Hospital for evaluation. He will be booked into jail following his release from medical care.
