Nashville, Tennessee – Increasing winds Sunday will be followed by a sharp drop in temperatures across Middle Tennessee as a cold front moves through the region late Sunday into early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, non-thunderstorm winds will become gusty Sunday afternoon, with occasional stronger gusts possible Sunday night as a line of showers moves through. Forecast wind gusts across the Nashville metro area are expected to range from 25 to 30 mph, with locally higher gusts possible during the evening.

Forecasters say the primary impacts include downed tree branches and unsecured outdoor items, particularly holiday decorations and lightweight objects. Residents are urged to secure loose items before winds increase.

Behind the cold front, temperatures will fall rapidly. After highs in the 60s and lower 70s Sunday, much colder air arrives overnight. By Monday, daytime temperatures will struggle, and wind chills are expected to drop into the 20s across the Nashville area, with upper teens possible in surrounding communities.

Wind chill forecasts show values near 25 degrees in Nashville, around 21 degrees in Clarksville, and upper teens to lower 20s east of the metro, including Jamestown and Crossville.

The timing places the coldest conditions during Monday morning and evening commutes, increasing the need for cold-weather precautions for outdoor workers, students, and those without adequate shelter.

Residents are advised to plan for rapidly changing conditions, dress in layers, and continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service as the cold front passes.
