In the early hours of Thursday, a tragic wrong-way collision on Interstate 65 North near the Vietnam Veterans Boulevard exit resulted in the death of a man. Roger Roland, 54, from Lawrenceburg, was driving his Ford Ranger pickup southbound in the northbound lanes when he collided head-on with a semi-truck.

Roland was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The semi-truck’s driver, aged 50, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Skyline Medical Center for treatment. In a bizarre turn of events during the crash, a wheel detached from Roland’s pickup, vaulted the retaining wall, and struck a Goodlettsville Police officer’s vehicle. Fortunately, the officer was able to stop safely and was unharmed.

Authorities are investigating whether impairment was a factor in the crash, with results pending from a blood sample taken from Roland.
