Nashville, TN – A 22-year-old man was fatally shot early Sunday during a confrontation outside an apartment complex on Century Farms Parkway in Nashville.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. when Jerrion Phillips, 22, became involved in a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend. Investigators said Phillips initially left the area but later returned, at which point a 23-year-old male resident allegedly stepped in to intervene.
Police reported that Phillips restrained the 23-year-old during the altercation. The resident then allegedly shot Phillips, who was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died.
Detectives interviewed both the 23-year-old and Phillips’ ex-girlfriend at MNPD headquarters. Authorities said no charges have been filed at this time, as the case remains under investigation and a possible self-defense claim is being considered.
The Homicide Unit continues to review evidence and witness statements as they determine whether the shooting was justified.
