Nashville, Tennessee – A high-impact winter storm is expected to move across Middle Tennessee this weekend, bringing a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain that could make travel dangerous and disrupt power across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, snow will begin Saturday morning, transitioning to a mix of freezing rain and sleet Saturday afternoon and evening. The most hazardous conditions are expected Saturday night through Sunday morning, when freezing rain and sleet may dominate, especially along and south of Interstate 40, including the Nashville metro area.
Snowfall totals in and around Nashville are forecast to range from 3 to 4 inches, while areas north of I-40 could see 4 to 6 inches. Ice accumulation is a major concern, with a 40–90% chance of at least 0.10 inches of ice, a 30–80% chance of 0.25 inches, and a 10–80% chance of 0.50 inches in parts of Middle Tennessee. Even small amounts of ice can cause slick roads, while heavier icing could lead to downed trees and widespread power outages.
Conditions may briefly transition back toward snow Sunday afternoon before tapering Sunday evening, followed by bitterly cold air moving in. Residents are urged to complete preparations now and avoid travel during the height of the storm.
