Tennessee – Rain drums steadily on rooftops this morning as warm, humid air surges across Middle Tennessee. Streets glisten, gutters run fast, and the ground has little room left to absorb what’s coming next.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Flood Watch remains in effect for much of Middle Tennessee through Saturday morning. Periods of heavy rain are expected, with widespread totals near 2 to 3 inches and locally higher amounts possible. Flash flooding could develop quickly, especially where storms repeatedly track over the same areas.

In the Nashville metro, showers intensify through the day and into tonight. Low-lying roads, underpasses, and poor-drainage neighborhoods may flood with little warning. Creeks and streams could rise out of their banks, including tributaries feeding the Duck River and Cumberland River system. Urban flooding remains a primary concern.

Drivers should plan for slower travel during heavier rain. Standing water may cover portions of I-24, I-40, I-65, and secondary roads during peak rainfall. Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around if water covers the pavement. Conditions may deteriorate rapidly after dark.

By Saturday morning, showers gradually taper, but lingering water issues may persist. As cooler air arrives, skies begin to clear Saturday night. Sunday turns noticeably cooler and calmer, with sunshine returning and highs in the lower 40s. That break will help waterways slowly recede.

Early next week looks quieter. Monday brings sunshine and dry conditions, offering crews and communities time to recover. While winter cold follows later, the immediate concern remains water, not snow.

Emergency managers urge residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert and monitor updates. Flood warnings could be issued with little notice.
