Tennessee – Headlights fade into gray walls early as dense fog settles across Middle Tennessee, shrinking visibility to less than a quarter mile in spots. The air feels mild for now, but a fast-moving weather pattern is already lining up behind the fog, bringing rain, gusty winds, and a sharp turn toward winter as New Year’s travel ramps up.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning across much of Middle Tennessee. Visibility may drop suddenly on highways and rural roads, especially along I-40, I-24, and I-65. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distance.

As the fog lifts, warmth takes over. Highs climb into the 70s later today, keeping conditions comfortable but unsettled. By Sunday afternoon, showers spread back into the region as winds increase. Rain becomes more widespread into Sunday evening, with gusts reaching 25 mph at times.

Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, and surrounding communities should prepare for a noticeable cool-down after the rain moves through. Temperatures fall sharply Sunday night, dropping into the 30s by Monday morning. While snow is not expected, lingering moisture combined with falling temperatures could create slick patches, especially on bridges and overpasses.

By early next week, winter asserts itself. Monday stays breezy and much cooler, followed by lows dipping into the 20s by Monday night. The colder pattern holds into midweek, shaping New Year’s Eve plans with dry but chilly conditions and a colder start to New Year’s Day 2026.

Commuting this morning or traveling Sunday? Plan extra time, watch for sudden visibility drops, and be ready for rapidly changing road conditions. How dense was the fog where you are?
