Nashville, TN – Detectives with the Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal shooting outside Bridgestone Arena early Saturday morning that left a 23-year-old Memphis man dead following what police describe as a dispute over a pedicab fare.
According to Metro Nashville Police, the incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Rep. John Lewis Way South, near the BetMGM Sports Lounge. Investigators say the victim, identified as Adrian Rivas-Romo, was shot during an altercation with 21-year-old pedicab driver Christopher Jones, who has since claimed self-defense.
Jones reportedly called 911 and remained at the scene, telling officers he fired after being struck and approached aggressively by Rivas-Romo. Police recovered Jones’s pistol at the scene.
Authorities say Rivas-Romo and several friends were visiting from Memphis and had hired pedicabs to return to their hotel. The group’s ride was interrupted when an argument broke out over the fare, leading Jones to stop and order the passengers to exit. A confrontation followed, during which Jones claims he was punched in the back of the head before firing a single shot.
Rivas-Romo was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
The District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case while detectives continue to gather evidence and witness statements to determine whether charges will be filed.
