Nashville, Tenn. – A wave of extreme heat is gripping Middle Tennessee, sending heat index values soaring to a dangerous 107 degrees and raising the risk of heat-related illness across Nashville, Clarksville, and surrounding communities through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for much of Middle Tennessee—including Davidson, Montgomery, Rutherford, and Williamson counties—until Wednesday evening. Residents can expect sweltering daytime temperatures combined with high humidity, creating hazardous conditions for anyone outdoors or without reliable air conditioning.

City centers like Nashville, Columbia, and Gallatin are especially vulnerable, with asphalt and concrete pushing “feels like” temperatures even higher on busy roadways such as I-24, I-65, and local streets. School officials in Maury and Rutherford counties urge families to limit outdoor activities and check on elderly neighbors. First responders in Lawrenceburg and Waynesboro are on alert for heat emergencies, with hospitals preparing for a potential spike in heat exhaustion and dehydration cases.

To stay safe, emergency management agencies recommend drinking extra water, staying indoors during peak afternoon hours, and never leaving pets or children unattended in vehicles. Those without access to air conditioning are encouraged to visit local cooling centers set up throughout Middle Tennessee.

Dangerously high heat and humidity will persist through at least 8 p.m. Wednesday, with more advisories possible if temperatures remain elevated. Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops.
