Nashville, TN – A major weather system is set to bring freezing rain and icy conditions to Middle Tennessee early Sunday. Residents should prepare for potential travel disruptions, especially in areas along the TN/KY border and the Cumberland Plateau, where ice accumulation chances are highest.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville, the system will arrive late Saturday night, transitioning to freezing rain by early Sunday morning. Areas along Interstate 24 and northward could see slick roads, icy sidewalks, and hazardous bridges during the morning hours. Ice accumulation probabilities range from 10% in Nashville to 50% near Clarksville. NWS advises bringing pets indoors and protecting pipes, as temperatures will drop to the low 20s overnight.

By Sunday afternoon, temperatures will rise into the upper 40s, melting much of the ice. However, a quick cooldown overnight could refreeze wet surfaces, leading to continued hazards. Snow showers are possible Monday as the system exits, with minimal accumulation expected. The region will remain dry for most of next week, but highs will struggle to reach freezing, and overnight lows could plummet to the teens.

Residents should monitor road conditions, delay travel if necessary, and prepare emergency kits for power outages in case of ice accumulation. Visit weather.gov/nashville for updates.
