Nashville, TN — Middle Tennessee will see showers and thunderstorms develop through the day Tuesday, with the best chance for stronger storms focused north of I-40 this afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service in Nashville has placed this region under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather, meaning storms will be limited in duration and coverage but could still produce quarter-size hail. Forecasters also note a very low chance of a brief tornado, though the threat remains minimal.

The timing for any stronger storms will fall between 5 PM and midnight, after which activity will diminish.

Outside of today’s low-end severe threat, Middle Tennessee is heading into what the NWS calls a “rainy week.” Off-and-on rain chances persist from Tuesday through the weekend, with the highest rain probabilities Thursday and Friday as another system moves through the region.

Most locations are expected to receive 1–2 inches of rain through Saturday, with a 10–30% chance of topping 2 inches. Cities including Nashville, Clarksville, Cookeville, and Crossville all show 70–85% rain chances Thursday and Friday, signaling widespread wet weather late week.

Wednesday will offer the briefest break, with much lower rain chances before the pattern turns unsettled again.

Flooding concerns remain low at this time, though localized ponding is possible in heavier downpours later in the week.

The NWS urges residents to remain weather-aware today and ensure they have multiple ways to receive warnings—especially those in areas north of I-40 where hail-producing storms may occur.
