Nashville, TN – The National Weather Service in Nashville says there’s a low chance for light snow tonight across portions of the Cumberland Plateau, as cooler air combines with a shallow layer of low-level moisture.
Forecasters aren’t expecting much accumulation, with most areas likely to see only a dusting to about half an inch of snow by Thursday morning. However, there is a 10–20% chance that some higher elevations in the Upper Cumberland region could receive up to one inch of accumulation.
The NWS notes that this event “doesn’t look likely” due to limited moisture, but conditions will continue to be monitored overnight in case localized snow bands develop.
Even with light accumulation, slippery roads and icy bridges are possible, especially in higher terrain and shaded areas. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution if traveling overnight or during the Thursday morning commute.
Temperatures will fall through the 20s and 30s overnight as winds, which were gusty earlier in the day, gradually subside. This cooling trend will help any precipitation that does occur stick briefly before melting later Thursday as highs return to the 40s.
The NWS Nashville advises residents to stay alert for quick changes in conditions across the Plateau and to check back for updated forecasts.
