Nashville, Tenn. – Thick fog is making early travel treacherous across the Nashville metro and surrounding counties, with visibility plunging to a quarter-mile along major interstates and surface roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. CDT Wednesday, covering Davidson, Wilson, Williamson, Rutherford, and Sumner counties, among others. Motorists on I-40, I-65, and I-24 are urged to slow down, use headlights, and maintain safe distances between vehicles.

Dense fog is reported along low-lying stretches and bridges, particularly near the Cumberland River, Percy Priest Lake, and rural routes in Maury, Marshall, and Cannon counties. Areas such as Murfreesboro, Gallatin, Franklin, and Lebanon are seeing heavy fog that could delay school buses and morning commutes.

Officials recommend drivers avoid abrupt stops, watch for pedestrians, and leave early if possible. Visibility is expected to gradually improve after sunrise, but fog may linger longer in eastern areas like Cookeville and Crossville.

The advisory expires at 8 a.m., but patchy fog could continue to affect high-elevation roads and shaded valleys. More updates will be issued if visibility does not improve.
