Naperville, Ill. — The Naperville Police Department released a final count of the traffic citations issued during their Fourth of July traffic campaign.
The campaign ran over the weekends leading up to the Fourth of July and through the holiday weekend. Patrols were on the lookout for distracted or impaired driving especially, along with other traffic violations. The Naperville Police Department joined the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) traffic campaign with the Illinois State Police and more than 200 other local police and sheriff departments.
The IDOT grant-funded Fourth of July traffic campaign brought a total of 52 traffic violations from the Naperville Police Department. Of those issued, 35 were seat belt violations, nine came from speeding and eight were distracted driving citations. The police department encouraged drivers to continue to practice safe, undistracted driving while on the roads now that the campaign is over.
Naperville has also recently joined the IDOT’s “Speeding Catches Up With You” campaign for the month of July.
