Naperville, IL – A death investigation is underway after divers discovered a submerged vehicle in Lake Osborne on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, during a training exercise.

According to a joint statement from the Naperville and Berwyn police departments, the Naperville Fire Department dive team located the vehicle just before 11 a.m. near the Naperville Public Safety Campus. By 3:40 p.m., crews removed the car and identified it as a 1992 Nissan Maxima.

Investigators determined the car was linked to a Berwyn Police Department case from 2003 involving Hiep Luu, who was reported missing at the time. Suspected human remains were found inside the vehicle, though they have not yet been identified. The DuPage County Coroner’s Office is handling the identification process.

Naperville Police divers returned to Lake Osborne on Friday, Sept. 26, to continue searching for evidence. The Naperville Police Department is leading the death investigation, while Berwyn Police continue managing the missing person case.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the death investigation to contact the Naperville Police Investigations Division at (630) 420-4138. Information regarding the missing person case should be directed to the Berwyn Police Investigations Division at (708) 795-2160.
