Naperville, IL – A weekend structure fire drew a major response in downtown Naperville after flames erupted on the roof of a five-story condominium building in the 100 block of South Washington Street Saturday night.
According to the Naperville Fire Department, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 7:55 p.m. reporting visible flames from the rooftop. Ten fire apparatus units and 24 firefighters responded within minutes, confirming an active blaze shortly after arrival.
Crews advanced hose lines through the stairwell and deployed an aerial ladder to reach the roof. As firefighters attacked the flames, additional teams ensured all residents were safely evacuated.
Officials reported the fire was fully extinguished by 8:34 p.m. and contained to the area surrounding a roof vent stack, which is being investigated as a possible contributing factor. Firefighters stayed on scene for about 30 more minutes to check for hot spots and verify safety.
Fortunately, no residents, pets, or firefighters were injured, and the building remains habitable. Preliminary damage estimates exceed $20,000.
The Naperville Fire Department received assistance from Naperville Police, Lisle-Woodridge, Warrenville, and Plainfield fire departments.
