Naperville, IL – Firefighters in Naperville responded to an early morning structure fire Sunday that left three adults displaced and caused more than $20,000 in damage.
According to the Naperville Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, after reports of smoke coming from a roof vent of an apartment building in the 1100 block of Royal Saint George Drive. The first crew arrived within minutes and discovered flames in the attic area.
Fire officials upgraded the incident to a general alarm, bringing 10 fire units and 24 firefighters to the scene. Crews quickly stretched hose lines to the attic and safely evacuated residents. The blaze was brought under control at approximately 9:40 a.m., and fire personnel remained on-site for about an hour to assist with cleanup and safety inspections.
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters, but city inspectors later determined that two of the building’s eight units were uninhabitable. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
Officials said the cause of the fire was accidental.
The Naperville Police Department, Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District, and city utilities departments provided assistance at the scene.
