Naperville, IL – An early morning house fire on the 700 block of Kaiser Court displaced a Naperville family and caused more than $50,000 in damage Monday, officials said.
According to the Naperville Fire Department, crews were called at 1:09 a.m. on Nov. 17 after reports of a fire on a home’s back deck. The caller told dispatchers everyone had evacuated safely before firefighters arrived. A general alarm brought 10 fire units and 24 personnel to the scene within minutes.
Firefighters arrived at 1:16 a.m. and found flames extending from the deck into the attic. Crews quickly deployed hose lines to the rear of the home to contain the blaze while others checked the attic for additional fire spread. The fire was brought under control by 1:35 a.m., with firefighters remaining on scene for another 20 minutes to ensure no hot spots remained.
No injuries were reported to residents, pets, or firefighters, but the home was declared uninhabitable by Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering, and Development Department. Officials estimated the damage at over $50,000. The fire displaced two adults and two children.
Investigators determined the cause to be the improper disposal of charcoal coals. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted by local police and city development crews.
