Wheaton, IL – DuPage County is under a Winter Storm Warning as a powerful system is expected to drop significant snowfall across the area beginning early Saturday and lasting into early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago, 6 to 10 inches of snow are expected countywide, with heavier pockets possible in northern and western communities such as Naperville, Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, Bartlett, and West Chicago. The warning is in effect from 3 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.
Snow is expected to begin shortly after 3 a.m., turning heavy between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. NWS forecasters report snowfall rates may reach 1 inch per hour, rapidly covering untreated roads and reducing visibility during the morning and mid-day hours.
Major DuPage travel routes are likely to be significantly impacted. Hazardous conditions are expected on:
- I-88 (Reagan Memorial Tollway)
- I-355 (Veterans Memorial Tollway)
- IL-59, IL-53, IL-64, and IL-38
- Roosevelt Road, Ogden Avenue, and North Avenue
- Local connectors through Naperville, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Lisle, Lombard, and Glendale Heights
Travel may become especially difficult on I-88 and I-355 during peak accumulation, with slowdowns possible throughout Saturday afternoon.
Light snow will continue into Saturday evening before tapering off by 6 a.m. Sunday. Cold temperatures will support efficient accumulation on sidewalks, driveways, and neighborhood streets.
Drivers are urged to prepare for delays, avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall, and check updated Illinois road conditions at GettingAroundIllinois.com.
