Chicago, Illinois – Torrential rain is overwhelming parts of DuPage County Monday evening as a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:15 p.m., raising concerns for drivers and residents in the western suburbs.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, radar and rain gauges detected storms dropping 1 to 2 inches of rain per hour across southern DuPage County. With another inch possible, rapid flooding is expected in Aurora, Naperville, Bolingbrook, Wheaton, and surrounding communities.

Emergency managers warn that creeks, drainage ditches, and underpasses could flood quickly, creating dangerous driving conditions. Roadways like Interstate 355 near Downers Grove and Route 53 near Bolingbrook are especially prone to standing water. Officials urge residents to avoid travel if possible and never drive into flooded roadways.

Flooding may also impact homes and businesses in low-lying neighborhoods near Lisle, Darien, and Glen Ellyn. Residents are advised to move valuables off basement floors, check sump pumps, and remain alert for fast-rising water.

The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:15 p.m., though additional advisories could be issued if storms continue.
