Nantucket, Massachusetts – Residents and visitors on the Massachusetts islands should prepare for slick roads and slower travel as snow moves in Wednesday evening and lingers into Thursday. While snowfall totals will be modest, timing during peak commute periods could create hazardous conditions, especially on untreated roads and ferry access routes.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Wednesday evening through early Thursday afternoon for Dukes and Nantucket counties. Snow is expected to begin Wednesday evening, with total accumulations ranging from 2 to 4 inches across Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. The steadiest snow is likely overnight, continuing into the Thursday morning hours.

The Wednesday evening commute and Thursday morning travel window are expected to see the greatest impacts, as snow-covered roads and reduced traction could make driving difficult. Local roads, bridges, and parking areas may become slick, particularly where plowing is delayed overnight.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Those with early Thursday plans should monitor conditions closely, as lingering snow could continue into the early afternoon. The advisory remains in effect until Thursday afternoon, and additional updates may be issued if snowfall persists longer than expected.
