Wilmington, North Carolina – Unseasonably cool air is moving into the Carolinas, bringing some of the coldest summer lows to coastal and inland towns in months. Early risers from Wilmington to Myrtle Beach will wake up Sunday to temperatures in the low to mid-60s, with some inland spots seeing readings not felt since late June.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, temperatures tonight will dip 5 to 10 degrees below normal across the region. Along the coast, lows in the mid-60s haven’t been seen since early June, while inland cities like Florence, Lumberton, and Whiteville will see similarly cool air. Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are forecast to drop to the upper 60s by sunrise.
Drivers and beachgoers should expect a crisp start to the day, with some patchy fog possible, especially near rivers and low-lying spots. Residents are urged to keep windows closed overnight and check on sensitive plants. No hazardous weather is expected, but locals are reminded these cooler temps won’t last—warmer summer air is due back by midweek.
This rare taste of early summer chill will stick around through Sunday morning. More typical August warmth is expected to return by Monday, with no weather alerts currently in effect.
