Muskogee, OK – A Muskogee man is dead following an early morning shooting Saturday, prompting an active manhunt for a suspect police say allegedly fled the scene after opening fire.
According to the Muskogee Police Department, officers responded around 4 a.m. Saturday to reports of shots fired in the 900 block of North K Street. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male lying in a front yard with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Investigators allege the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation inside a nearby residence involving the victim and another individual. Police said the suspect allegedly left the scene after the altercation, then allegedly returned a short time later and fired multiple shots at the victim, who was outside with several other people at the time.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Elio Hernandez. Authorities allege the suspect, 42-year-old Jesus Garcia, fled prior to officers arriving and remains at large.
Garcia is considered armed and dangerous, and police warn the public not to approach him. Investigators are actively working to locate him and have released his identity as part of the ongoing search.
Anyone with information on Garciaโs whereabouts or who may have seen him is urged to call 911 immediately. Police emphasized that this remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional details are expected to be released as they become available.
