Jonesboro, Arkansas – Severe thunderstorms are expected to intensify across northeast Arkansas and surrounding states through 7 p.m. Thursday, bringing threats of damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for 38 counties spanning Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky. The alert covers cities including Jonesboro, Batesville, Poplar Bluff, Dyersburg, and Fulton. Strong storms could develop rapidly, with localized flooding and isolated power outages possible.

In Arkansas, counties such as Craighead, Faulkner, and Greene are under the watch. In Missouri, Butler and Pemiscot counties are at risk, while Tennessee’s Lauderdale and Obion counties remain on alert. Kentucky’s Fulton and Hickman counties are also included.

Drivers should remain cautious during the evening commute, especially on I-55 and US 412, where sudden downpours may reduce visibility. Secure loose outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary travel during storms. Those in mobile homes or weak structures should have a safe shelter nearby.

Storms are expected to taper off after sunset, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates.
