Pleasant Hill, IL – A man from Wilsonville was arrested this week in connection with a string of burglaries across multiple Illinois counties, following a 3 a.m. break-in at a Pike County convenience store.
According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to an alarm at approximately 3:55 a.m. Sunday at the Jiffi Stop in Pleasant Hill. When officers arrived, they discovered the glass door had been shattered and merchandise had been unlawfully taken.
Further investigation linked the break-in to two additional burglaries in Calhoun County and another in Jersey County. According to the Jersey County Sheriff’s Office, recovered evidence helped tie the crimes together. A coordinated multi-agency effort led to the identification of a suspect vehicle and ultimately its operator.
On Thursday, June 12, officers executed a court-authorized search warrant at a residence in Wilsonville, Macoupin County. Authorities from Macoupin, Calhoun, and Pike counties recovered items allegedly stolen during the burglaries and arrested 40-year-old Casey W. Sobberi.
Sobberi, who was on supervised release from the Illinois Department of Corrections at the time, was taken to the Pike County Jail. Due to procedural policies, IDOC did not participate in his apprehension.
Sobberi faces multiple charges:
Calhoun County: Two counts each of burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property over $500.
Pike County: One count each of burglary, theft, criminal damage over $500, and unlawful possession of burglary tools.
Chief Deputy Orr credited collaboration among departments and investigative work from Jersey County Detective Sally Arbuthnot as key to the arrest. Sheriff Greenwood urged would-be criminals to reconsider, stating, “We will go wherever we need to and do whatever is necessary to bring criminals to justice.”
