MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia football fans heading to Milan Puskar Stadium Saturday will see hazy skies overhead, as wildfire smoke from Canada filters sunlight across much of the Mountain State.

According to the National Weather Service, the smoke is high in the atmosphere and will not create widespread air quality problems. Instead, fans can expect a dimmer midday sun and a vivid glow at sunset when the Mountaineers finish play.

The haze will also be noticeable in Charleston, Huntington, and Wheeling, particularly during afternoon outdoor activities and evening drives on I-79 and I-64. Visibility impacts should remain minor, though drivers may notice stronger glare when the sun sets into the smoky layer.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s, and with the haze reducing direct sunlight, the day may feel slightly less intense than a typical September afternoon. Tailgaters are urged to stay hydrated and use extra caution with grills, given the dry air and lingering smoke overhead.

Conditions are expected to remain hazy through Sunday, with skies beginning to clear as the week starts.
