Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginians can expect a mostly dry and comfortable Monday before heat and humidity return by Tuesday. Sunshine will break through by the afternoon, with high temperatures ranging from the mid-80s in the mountains to near 90 degrees across central and southern counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, high pressure is keeping most of the state dry today, though a few pop-up showers may form in the higher elevations late this afternoon. Temperatures will not climb as high as Sunday, but humidity will still linger, making conditions feel slightly sticky.
Charleston, Huntington, and Parkersburg will see highs around 88 to 89 degrees, while Beckley and Elkins stay closer to the low 80s. In mountain communities such as Snowshoe and Marlinton, forecasters note a slim 20 percent chance of isolated showers this evening.
Drivers and outdoor workers should prepare for increasing heat again Tuesday as southerly winds push warmer, more humid air back into the region. Rain chances will rise late Tuesday into Wednesday, particularly in northern and mountain counties.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours. More weather alerts may follow as humidity and storm chances increase midweek.
