Morton Grove, IL – Police in Morton Grove are investigating an early morning incident Wednesday where shots were fired during an attempted vehicle burglary on Reba Street.

According to the Morton Grove Police Department, officers responded around 6:02 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2026, to the 5700 block of Reba Street after reports of gunfire linked to a motor vehicle burglary. Responding officers secured the scene and confirmed that no one was injured.

Investigators say two unidentified offenders were attempting to break into a vehicle when the homeowner confronted them. The suspects allegedly brandished firearms and fired four rounds in the homeowner’s direction before fleeing in a gray Genesis sedan with a stolen Illinois license plate.

The vehicle was later detected leaving the area by multiple license plate reader cameras. Police said there is no ongoing threat to nearby residents.

The Morton Grove Police Department continues to pursue investigative leads and is working with regional law enforcement partners.
