Morris, IL Shooting Leaves One Dead; Suspect Charged with First-Degree Murder

Morris, IL – A 25-year-old man died early Monday after being shot at a home in the 600 block of Armstrong Street, authorities said.

Morris Police responded to the scene at 12:01 a.m. after a female caller reported the shooting. The victim was transported to Morris Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld until family members are notified.

According to the Morris Police Department, the suspect, Jerrell Blake, 35, of E. Jefferson Street, fled the scene but was apprehended about 30 minutes later in the 200 block of W. Washington Street. Blake was detained and later charged with first-degree murder.

Detectives are continuing their investigation, seeking surveillance footage and evidence along the suspect’s possible path. Residents and businesses in the area are urged to review footage taken between 11:50 p.m. and 12:45 a.m. and report any suspicious findings to police.

Authorities, including the Grundy County Coroner’s Office, are working to provide further details.
