Morris, IL Man Stabbed; Pontiac Suspect Arrested Early Saturday

Morris, IL – A Pontiac man was taken into custody after a stabbing incident in Morris early Saturday morning, according to the Morris Police Department.

Police said the incident occurred on September 13, 2025, around 1:30 a.m. on East Jackson Street, where two men were reportedly fighting in the roadway. When officers arrived, they located a male victim who had been stabbed in the shoulder. The victim told police the suspect fled into a nearby residence.

Officers entered the home after hearing a woman screaming inside. Police said they found Richard Smith, 42, of Pontiac, who was allegedly involved in the altercation. Smith was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. He was booked into the Grundy County Jail while the case is reviewed for additional charges.

The victim’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and he was later released from medical care. Police confirmed that the female inside the residence was not injured.

Authorities have not released further details on what sparked the altercation. The investigation remains ongoing.
