Morgan County, IN – An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after deputies responded to a reported home break-in Friday afternoon in Morgan County, according to the Morgan County Major Crimes Task Force.

According to investigators, the incident began around the 4200 block of Belt Lane after a homeowner called 911, reporting he had seen an unknown individual inside his residence through security cameras. When Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, they found signs of forced entry and made contact with a male who was allegedly inside the home without permission.

Deputies said the individual stood in the doorway, yelling and refusing commands to show his hands or exit. According to the Task Force, K-9 Bullet was deployed when the suspect continued to refuse cooperation. Investigators said the suspect then allegedly reached into the residence, produced a pair of four-foot-long tree loppers, and struck the dog in the head, rendering him unconscious. He reportedly continued to strike the K-9 until two deputies stopped the aggression using lethal gunfire and non-lethal bean bag rounds.

Deputies immediately provided emergency aid to both the suspect and K-9 Bullet. The suspect was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and is reported to be in stable condition. Bullet was taken to an emergency veterinary facility in Carmel, where officials say he is responding well to treatment and undergoing additional scans today.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been confirmed, and the deputies involved have been placed on administrative status, following policy. The Morgan County Prosecutor’s Office will review the investigation to determine what charges will be filed.

The Major Crimes Task Force was assisted by multiple local agencies, including Martinsville and Mooresville police and Morgan County EMS.
