Morehead City, NC – A warm and breezy Saturday will give way to scattered thunderstorms tonight and Sunday, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures early next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Newport/Morehead City.
After a dry and mild start today, storm chances increase late tonight as a strong cold front approaches from the west. Another round of thunderstorms is likely Sunday, some potentially strong, before much colder and drier air sweeps in behind the front Sunday night into Monday.
Temperatures will fall dramatically — from mid-70s Sunday to highs only in the 50s Monday, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s. The NWS says this could mark the first fall freeze for parts of inland eastern North Carolina by early Tuesday morning.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, prepare for gusty winds Sunday night, and stay weather-aware in case of isolated stronger storms or lightning.
