Morehead City, NC – A picture-perfect fall day is unfolding across eastern North Carolina with bright sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and light southwesterly breezes. However, a cold front moving in from the west will bring a noticeable cool-down tonight into Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service office in Newport/Morehead City, highs today will reach the low to mid-70s under mostly sunny skies—right around seasonal norms for late October. Winds from the southwest will increase through the afternoon, with gusts up to 20 mph at times ahead of the approaching front. The boundary is expected to cross the coast late tonight, shifting winds to the northwest and ushering in cooler, drier air by daybreak Wednesday.

Forecasters note that the front will move through mostly dry, though a few brief sprinkles may develop north of Greenville and Washington. Behind the front, temperatures will drop into the 40s inland and lower 50s near the coast, with noticeably lower humidity. According to meteorologists, the rest of the week will feature crisp mornings and sunny, mild afternoons—ideal for outdoor work and coastal recreation.

By Thursday, highs will remain in the 60s with clear skies and light northwest breezes. The cooler, stable pattern will persist into the weekend, marking one of the most comfortable stretches of fall weather so far this season.

Residents are advised to secure lightweight outdoor items ahead of tonight’s brief gusty winds and to prepare for cooler mornings midweek.
