MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – Beachgoers along the Crystal Coast should use caution today as a Moderate Rip Current Risk remains in effect through Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City warns that strong currents may develop along area beaches, including Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, and Cape Lookout National Seashore.

According to the NWS, patchy drizzle and overcast skies will persist through midday Tuesday before brighter weather returns by Wednesday. Temperatures will hover near 66°F, with north winds gusting up to 18 mph. Mariners and swimmers are advised to stay alert to changing surf conditions and heed all posted beach flags.

By Wednesday, skies clear dramatically as high pressure builds across eastern North Carolina. Highs rise into the mid-70s with plenty of sunshine and lower humidity, providing perfect weather for outdoor work, fishing trips, and coastal travel. Nights will cool to the low 50s under clear skies, signaling the return of true Fall air.

Calm and pleasant conditions continue Thursday through Saturday, with highs between 68°F and 74°F. Travelers along U.S. 70 and N.C. 24 can expect excellent visibility and smooth driving.

After today’s brief drizzle and coastal hazards, Morehead City settles into a beautiful, dry stretch through the end of the week — an ideal window for beach walks, boating, and fall events along the waterfront.
