Morehead City, NC — The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City reports that breezy southwest winds and mild temperatures will prevail across eastern North Carolina on Wednesday, December 10, ahead of a dry cold front expected to move through the region tonight.

Forecasters say wind gusts of 20–30 mph inland and 30–40 mph along the Outer Banks will develop through the afternoon. Despite the gusty conditions, skies will remain mostly sunny, allowing highs to reach the mid-50s to near 60°F before the front passes.

“This will be the last warm-up before cooler, more seasonable weather returns for the remainder of the work week,” the NWS stated.

As the cold front advances into coastal areas this evening, temperatures will begin to drop, with overnight lows falling into the upper 30s inland and lower 40s near the coast. Winds will gradually shift to the northwest, ushering in a cooler, drier air mass.

Drivers should be cautious on bridges and open roadways, where crosswinds could make travel challenging, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Marine interests should also take note, as conditions may become hazardous for small craft offshore this afternoon and evening.

No precipitation is expected with this frontal passage, and Thursday will feature cooler temperatures with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s under mostly sunny skies.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor decorations, patio furniture, and other loose objects ahead of the gusty conditions.
